The ChurchPlanter/Pastor James Walter Johnson, II James Walter Johnson, II is a preacher that is committed to the full gospel, a gifted teacher, and a genuine brother in Christ. He has an uncommon and passionate desire to see the LORD glorified, and to see believers reach their full potential in Christ.
Most of Pastor Johnson’s earliest memories are of Church. He fondly remembers holding on to the fingers of the late Dr. Eugene C. Beatty, (Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Ardmore, OK), at Sunday School while Dr. Beatty would review the Sunday School lessons. “God took much time and care in developing a firm foundation of the gospel in me.” Minister Johnson was baptized in June of 1977 at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, (Surry, VA) by Pastor James W. Johnson, I. (Yes, he is a p.k.) Minister Johnson over the years has served in many ministries, among them; Youth, Men’s, Sound, Sunday School, Evangelism, Fellowship/Kitchen, and others. His two favorite were Evangelism and Fellowship/Kitchen. “To be effective at either of those ministries took quite a bit of discipline.”
Pastor Johnson was licensed to preach the gospel at Mt. Nebo under the guidance of Dr. Daniel L. Baltimore in 1998. Pastor Baltimore has had extremely great impact on his Christian maturation. “Pastor Baltimore is as loving and genuine as anyone you ever want to meet, but he does not tolerate much ‘mess’ from those called to work in the ministry under his shepherding.”
In 2001, Pastor Johnson began Covenant Restoration Ministries. CRM is an outreach ministry that has targeted the unchurched citizens of Fredericksburg, those who had been hurt in ministries and needed help in becoming whole so that they could return to the ministries they had come out of, and many who had been stuck in the margins of life. Mount Nebo Baptist Church ordained Pastor Johnson for this work. Pastor Johnson is the former pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, VA and he has served as the chaplain for the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Recently he completed Church Planter Basic Training, and Church Planter Assessment, both through the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. Pastor Johnson has been married for over 13 years to the former LaTisha Danyelle Brown from Surry, VA. Mrs Johnson is a homemaker. They have three children: Jeremy (age 11), Daniel (age 9), and Faith (age 7). Minister Johnson has 3 siblings: Jacqueline (Tulsa, OK), Alicia (Pine Bluff, AK), and Bert (Tulsa, OK). He is the son of Dr. J. W. Johnson (Tulsa, OK) and Cheryl M. Thomas ( Fort Worth, TX). Minister Johnson has attended the U.S.M.A. Prep School, the University of Oklahoma, and the Alpha College of Real Estate. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Tri-Cities Brothers In Christ, and a former board of directors member for the Alliance for Christian Women In Ministry, both non profit organizations. His secular career has included both corporate experience, and entrepreneurial endeavors. For the last six years he has served as a mortgage broker.
